When it comes to some of the funniest romantic comedies, I have to mention Forgetting Sarah Marshall. This film is absolutely hilarious and finds the right balance of romance with comedy. Sure, the comedy is more prevalent, but its got enough of a romantic storyline as well.

Another movie to surely mention on this list is Lars And The Real Girl. This is surely not your run of the mill romantic comedy and is all the better for it. Kudos to Ryan Gosling in actually convincing audiences that he is having a relationship with a prosthetic doll.

One last film that I feel compelled to mention is Hitch. I tend to like most films that Will Smith is in, but this movie surely is the most romantic of comedies in his catalogue. Its funny, its cute, its plain and simple, an enjoyable film.

I have actually yet to see Brazil, but I often see this film on many great movie lists. Robert De Niro stars in this 1980 classic that movie fans around the world seem to agree is one of director Terry Gilliam’s best.

Finally, I felt that A Bronx Tale was a film that was worth mentioning. This is one of the few mob films that stars Robert De Niro as the good guy! Chazz Palmienteri, who also happened to write the script, plays the bad guy in this one.

Another movie that I have a special affinity for is Turner and Hooch. Growing up, I had a Dogue De Bordeaux, which is the type of dog that Hooch was. Subsequently, this was a family favorite of ours.

If you like movies with twists, it is definitely worth seeing. Don’t worry I promise I didn’t ruin anything for you.

Another Samuel L. Jackson which was great but was limited in its release was Black Snake Moan. This is quite the controversial film, which also stars Christina Ricci and takes place in the deep South.

One other film that needs to be included on this list is Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith. Samuel L. Jackson was awesome in the Star Wars saga and while episodes I and II were lackluster, episode III pulled out all the stops.

Another film that must make any martial arts list, old school or not, is Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. This movie showed audiences a new level of special effects in martial arts film. Ang Lee pulled out all the stops with this one and helped reinvent the film genre.

Another movie to include on this list would be Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill: Volume 1. Both movies in this story are great, but number 1 has the better fighting sequences. The Bridge against the Crazy 88 is one of the better fighting sequences of all time.

Who could make a list of martial arts from 2000 up until now and not mention Kill Bill? Sure it is not a traditional martial arts film per se, but it is a saga of revenge and clearly takes a lot of influence from the old Kurosawa films.

No list of martial arts films would be complete for me without mentioning Tom Yum Goong. This movie stars the incredible Tony Jaa, whose combination of Muy Thai martial arts with jaw dropping acrobatics makes this one of my favorites.

I went out the other night for a friend’s birthday to Convivio, and decided this was my one of the best pasta places in all of the city. Located in Tudor City, Convivio is not a traditional pasta place with specials like gnochetti with crab and sea urchin.

Another must try place when visiting New York City is the legendary Il Mulino. This place is too good. You will leave so full you will not want to eat for days. One piece of advice: do not fill up on the breadsticks.

Down in TriBeCa is the wildly popular Locanda Verde. You can’t really go wrong with the pastas here, but one of the best dishes they offer is the Orecchiette with homemade duck sausage, broccoli rabe and piave.

If you find yourself on the Lower East Side, a great place to try out is Falai. Located on Clinton Street, this place serves up specialities like Gnudi, with ricotta cheese, baby spinach, brown butter, crema di latte and crispy sage. Enough said.

Finally, a Scott Conant restaurant should be named. While the Meatpacking District lacks in great restaurants, Scarpetta is worth visiting. The spaghetti is the star of the show, served al dente to perfection.

One other place worth mentioning is Spina in the East Village. This place rolls their pasta fresh daily and has a constantly changing list of selections. A great place to try if you are in town looking for a cheaper option.

Another film that is on my list of favorites (boxing related or not) is Million Dollar Baby. This is my favorite Clint Eastwood directed film, and Hillary Swank knocks it out of the park as the lead role. Morgan Freeman also is amazing in this film.

After over 15 years since Rocky 5 was released, Stallone stepped back in the ring in the film Rocky Balboa. This film recaptured the greatness of the franchise and reminded us what we loved about this character.

Based on the legendary boxer of the same name, Ali is based on the true life stories of Muhammed Ali and his boxing career. While it may not have lived up to the expectations of most, I found a lot to like about this movie.

These are just some of the best boxing films to date, however there are definitely others that did not make the list, but were worth consideration.

Raging Bull is, in my opinion the greatest boxing film of all time. I love that this film is done in black and white. This remains one of Martin Scorcese’s best films, if not the best. This is not a feel good boxing film.

One science fiction film that was released during the 80s that helped set the precedent for future movies in this genre was Blade Runner. This and Gladiator are my two favorite Ridley Scott films, and this film is a classic for a reason.

I would be remiss to not include The Shining on my list. This remains one of the greatest horror movies ever created. Jack Nicholson is terrifying in this movie, and it stands the test of time.

As it stands, this is my list. I wanted to include Poltergeist and a John Hughes film, but I guess you have to draw the line somewhere.
