There are qualities which are vital to any great tennis player and as the world of tennis progresses on, these qualities are debated over by fans and players alike.

On the other hand, a powerful serve gives a player an edge no matter what the circumstances. Someone with an elite serve (i.e. Roddick) can easily dictate the tone of a match if their opponent has a hard time breaking them. A big serve makes the rest of every point far easier.

Players have a hard time winning points if their opponent is fast at reaching the ball. Players like Nadal manage to reach almost every ball coming their way. If your opponent has to play hard to get a point then you will be causing them to make unforced errors.

What I think is the most important aspect is the x-factor, as in the mental game. Rafael Nadal knows how to play a tough mental game and as a result has some of the toughest in the history of tennis.

During matches, he has the ability to remain composed and calm with a win attitude that seems to work for him.

There is also Quentin Tarantino who gave us Inglorious Basterds. This was the movie that got Tarantino back on top form; if it doesn’t see an Oscar this year, it may well get a best actor.

But Avatar by James Cameron is everyone’s favorite to win this year’s Oscar award as it brought something fresh to the screens of Hollywood.

A few years later, The Cable Guy came out, and many had mixed opinions about this. Still, there are some who swear that The Cable Guy was Carrey’s best and funniest performance. Others prefer his work in Me, Myself, and Irene, another Carrey movie that many believe to be underrated.

Carrey spent some time focusing on roles that showcased his ability to do well as a serious actor in dramatic movies too. Movies like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and The Truman Show are both serious movies with dramatic themes. Carrey took to these roles extremely well.

There are many Jim Carrey movies to choose from here, and narrowing it down to one will be extremely difficult for most movie fans. Still, everyone has that one special movie that stands out in their minds.

As amazing as it seems, we’re almost done with another decade. This has been an interesting span of ten years in the pro football world. With some of the best quarterbacks to ever play the sport, I’m now going to go ahead in listing the top 10 QBs of the last decade.

These rankings will have more to do with the decade on a whole than they will with who’s the best at the moment. Based on that, there’s ample opportunity for the ordering of this list to change once each career is done.

These are all a matter of opinion, and yours might be different from mine. If you feel that I’ve gotten this order wrong, I’d love to hear your reasoning.

The fifth spot in these rankings goes to Kurt Warner. While it’s true that he was weak during the middle of the decade, he’s been one of the strongest in the NFL during the beginning and at the end of this decade. Having led the Rams and the Cardinals to Super Bowls, he’s been exceptional – especially when you consider the usual demise of both franchises.

Brett Favre. A better career QB than at least one of the guys (and arguably more) below him here, Favre’s still going strong to close out the decade.

With 5 conference championship appearances on his resume, Donovan McNabb has done his share to earn a spot on this list. The Eagles have been perennially strong during this decade, thanks to a great defense and a top notch quarterback.

Tom Brady. With his three Super Bowl rings, a 212-90 career record, and a 93.4 career QB rating, all of which took place during the course of the decade, Brady has been phenomenal.

Lastly, Peyton Manning is already being spoken of as one of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game of football, and some are beginning to believe that he may in fact be the best. He led the Colts to a Super Bowl, and it wouldn’t surprise me to see him win another one.

If you look at the state of tennis today as compared to 30 years ago, a lot has changed. Most of this change took place in the 1980s, as both the racquets and playing styles underwent major transformations.

I’d like to take a trip down memory lane by writing about my favorite five 1980s tennis players. These all come down to my personal preferences and they’re not based on merit. Nonetheless, I’ll be curious to see how these compare with yours.

The early 1980s were dominated by Bjorn Borg before his early retirement. At the top of his game, he was undoubtedly the best in the world and one of the best to ever play the sport.

When I think of great net players, Stefan Edberg is one of the first names to come to mind. His serve and volley approach was simplistic in nature, but dominant enough to propel him to the world’s number one ranking in the later part of the decade.

How about Boris Becker? When he took the tennis world by storm after winning Wimbledon at the young age of 16, tennis fans knew that a legend was born. Becker followed through with some great tennis for another decade, and cemented himself as one of the sport’s all-time greats.

While he wasn’t exactly a fan favorite, I absolutely love what Ivan Lendl did for the sport. He sat atop the rankings for longer than anyone before him in modern tennis had, and he won more tournaments than one could possibly dream of winning today.

1. John McEnroe. What can you say about Mac? His charisma, his hustle, and everything else that he did on the court is legendary. To see him as a commentator through his retirement is simply a delight. I was shocked to see how well he plays when I saw him play at a senior tour event.

It was hard to narrow this list down to just five, as there are many others I could have mentioned. How do these players compare to yours?

The Australian Open once again got the tennis year off to a great start and whetted out appetite for the forthcoming season. The master they call Roger Federer once again lifted that famous trophy, sending out a warning to all his opponents that he’s still the man to beat.

Don’t assume, however, at this early stage, it’s going to be the same winners at all the Majors. There are a few good players just waiting to seize the moment and lift a few big titles themselves. Here are a few who showed great promise last year, and this could well be their time to shine.

There are quite a few players waiting in the wings to show us what they are capable of after showing great promise in 2009. The first one is on the women’s tour, the American teenager Melanie Oudin.

On the women’s tour there is the young American Melanie Oudin, she as the surprise package at the 2009 US Open by beating some very big names to reach the semi final stage.

Still a teenager, there is still plenty of time for Oudin’s all round game to grow and mature, A fact her competitors will be well aware of and hoping they aren’t drawn against her.

Nikolay Davydenko is no newcomer, but at 28 seems to be finally getting the recognition he deserves as a great player. In their last three meetings he has beaten Federer twice, which will no doubt be a thorn in Federer’s size.

Our next player to watch is a 28 year old who has been around quite a while but is literally in the form of his career. Nikolay Davydenko has had a career that has been overshadowed by allegations of gambling scandals.

Physically and mentally he has never been better, and expect some great results from him in 2010.

So first off, by all-time I mean up to this point. I am sure Alicia Keys is not done writing for her lifetime, but here are the five best put out by the New York City native.

1. No One – This song was the first single off of “As I Am,” and showed off Alicia’s range like few other songs. The passion, which you can see on her music video, rocketed this hit to #1 and became an instant hit.

2. You may remember her first hit ever, the song Falling, which was a product of her first ever CD back in the late 1990s. This was the beginning of Alicia Keys, and little did we know how lasting her presence would be.

3. Number three on our list is the song If I Ain’t Got You. This is one of the best piano songs I’ve ever heard and it came straight off her Diary album, one of her top sellers to date.

4. Yet another great song by Alicia Keys is “My Boo”. This is a duet, as the credit goes to Usher since it appeared on his CD, though Alicia Keys played an integral role in the song and it wouldn’t have been nearly as special without her.

5. One of her more recent hits, Superwoman is another classic Alicia Keys chart topper. The lyrics in this song are particularly meaningful, as millions of women worldwide can relate to her here.

Additionally, you’ve probably heard this song in movie soundtracks, commercials, and more, as the commercial appeal to this song has been huge.

This was a tough list to make. Alicia Keys is a valuable artist, but she should be recognized for her best work. Narrowing it down to five was tough, and I apologize ahead of time for showing inadvertent favoritism.

I can guarantee that if you ask any of your friends they will say they have watched a movie online before. Every one who’s anyone will have watched a film whilst sitting at their personal computer. Whether it was just out of boredom or they were specifically searching for a particular film they would have done it at some point. The main problem is that not many of these movie websites are actually legal. There is also a good chance that you could get in trouble for using them and watching movies at your computer. Just think how much money movie studios have. They could sue you for big money and would it have been worth it for watching a lousy copy of a film? I doubt it.

Instead of plugging away for years on end, a short cut to instant fame and recognition is to get onto American Idol and become a star.

Sadly, after initial success, a lot of winners disappear from the limelight rarely to be heard of again. This is one of the curses of the TV talent show. There are those, however, who have proved they’re here to stay. The likes of Kelly Clarkson are now global stars selling millions of albums.

The one place in normal competition that nobody wants to end up in is second, but that doesn’t seem to be the case with American Idol. Many of the losers on the night have gone on to have successful careers, often eclipsing the actual winners.

We’ll have a look now at some of the most famous runners up who have American Idol to thank for a great career, even though they didn’t actually win.

The first of the successful runners up was Clay Aiken, back in season two. The skinny nerd transformed week by week in front of our eyes into a real star. He belted out a song like no other, and you that wherever he finished this guy was gonna stick around.

It was a major surprise on the night when America voted Ruben Studdard the winner, as Clay had been the clear favorite. Since Idol, however, their fortunes have been reversed. While Studdard achieved moderate success, Clay has gone from strength to strength and is a major star on the radio and on Broadway.

The runner up from season 7 was the incredibly cute David Archuleta. He placed himself firmly in the hearts of the American public and still remains there today. This guy keeps popping up all over the place and has worked hard to carve himself a very successful career.

It looks as if this year’s second placed contestant Adam Lambert is taking his place on this list too. He was beaten on the night by Kris Allen but in the months since that night, Lambert’s career is going from strength to strength while Allen’s seems to have stalled.

Some of Jackson’s career numbers include 1,772 hits, 54 home runs, 785 RBI, and a career batting average of .356. Jackson lacked in the power department, but his averages were clearly impressive.

The power is low, but this came in an era with much deeper home run fences, and just before Babe Ruth made his impact as the first major power hitter in baseball, revolutionizing the game. Players hit for average, with an emphasis on extra base hits (Jackson averaged- triples per season). A closer look at Jackson’s stats show some very impressive attributes.

9.4 walks percentage, 4.2 strikeout percentage, .423 on base percentage. 517 slugging percentage, and a .940 OPS. These are great numbers and H.O.F. numbers in fact.

Now let’s get into the Black Sox scandal of’19. The White Sox faced the Reds in the World Series. The White Sox lost the series and Joe Jackson, and eight other players were accused of throwing the series. But Shoeless Joe stats show he did not play poorly. Do you think a .375 average and 12 hits (a world series record) is throwing the series? His fielding percentage in the series was 1.000, having made no errors.

Some have pointed out an abnormally high number of triples the Reds hit to left field (where Jackson played), but research shows this to be inaccurate, as the Reds hit no triples to left field that series. Contradicting his numbers is the fact that Jackson did accept a $5,000 check. It would seem that Jackson reluctantly accepted the money with his teammates, but most likely didn’t want to actually throw the series.

This begs the question: does Shoeless Joe belong in the hall?
