The Australian Open once again got the tennis year off to a great start and whetted out appetite for the forthcoming season. The master they call Roger Federer once again lifted that famous trophy, sending out a warning to all his opponents that he’s still the man to beat.
Don’t assume, however, at this early stage, it’s going to be the same winners at all the Majors. There are a few good players just waiting to seize the moment and lift a few big titles themselves. Here are a few who showed great promise last year, and this could well be their time to shine.
There are quite a few players waiting in the wings to show us what they are capable of after showing great promise in 2009. The first one is on the women’s tour, the American teenager Melanie Oudin.
On the women’s tour there is the young American Melanie Oudin, she as the surprise package at the 2009 US Open by beating some very big names to reach the semi final stage.
Still a teenager, there is still plenty of time for Oudin’s all round game to grow and mature, A fact her competitors will be well aware of and hoping they aren’t drawn against her.
Nikolay Davydenko is no newcomer, but at 28 seems to be finally getting the recognition he deserves as a great player. In their last three meetings he has beaten Federer twice, which will no doubt be a thorn in Federer’s size.
Our next player to watch is a 28 year old who has been around quite a while but is literally in the form of his career. Nikolay Davydenko has had a career that has been overshadowed by allegations of gambling scandals.
Physically and mentally he has never been better, and expect some great results from him in 2010.

So first off, by all-time I mean up to this point. I am sure Alicia Keys is not done writing for her lifetime, but here are the five best put out by the New York City native.
1. No One – This song was the first single off of “As I Am,” and showed off Alicia’s range like few other songs. The passion, which you can see on her music video, rocketed this hit to #1 and became an instant hit.
2. You may remember her first hit ever, the song Falling, which was a product of her first ever CD back in the late 1990s. This was the beginning of Alicia Keys, and little did we know how lasting her presence would be.
3. Number three on our list is the song If I Ain’t Got You. This is one of the best piano songs I’ve ever heard and it came straight off her Diary album, one of her top sellers to date.
4. Yet another great song by Alicia Keys is “My Boo”. This is a duet, as the credit goes to Usher since it appeared on his CD, though Alicia Keys played an integral role in the song and it wouldn’t have been nearly as special without her.
5. One of her more recent hits, Superwoman is another classic Alicia Keys chart topper. The lyrics in this song are particularly meaningful, as millions of women worldwide can relate to her here.
Additionally, you’ve probably heard this song in movie soundtracks, commercials, and more, as the commercial appeal to this song has been huge.
This was a tough list to make. Alicia Keys is a valuable artist, but she should be recognized for her best work. Narrowing it down to five was tough, and I apologize ahead of time for showing inadvertent favoritism.

Watching movies online is all the rage nowadays. We are all doing it! And why not? If I can watch movies online free I’m damn sure going to. For starters, you will be saving money on your cinema ticket and TV just doesn’t seem to be showing good movies any more. Just do a quick search in Google you will notice thousands of sites that offer free movies.
But here is the problem. How many of these movie websites are actually legal? Can you get in trouble for watching movies at these sites? The simple answer is: yes! They are illegal and offer copyrighted material. You wouldn’t steal from a shop would you? By watching pirated movies that is exactly what you are doing, but stealing from a film company.
By using a legal movies website you will feel a lot better about yourself. You will feel a lot better about the fact that you are not breaking the law and you will get an awesome copy of the movie you are watching. Lets face it, who wants to watch a movie that was filmed in the cinema? Not me. Give me legal movies any day of the week.
When watching legal public domain movies its best if you watching the video directly on the site. It’s hard enough browsing movie websites and being redirected to other video hosts. Look for a site that offers click and play. You find your title, click it , hit play and you’re away. Free movies streaming in high quality.
In a short amount of time legal movie websites will be everywhere, the illegal movie sites are getting shut down more and more often now, the government are enforcing a real crack down. Legal movie sites will always be online and by joining in with the community now when they are new to the internet, will make you feel a part of their history in 10 years time.
I personally endorse this website to watch movies free

Instead of plugging away for years on end, a short cut to instant fame and recognition is to get onto American Idol and become a star.
Sadly, after initial success, a lot of winners disappear from the limelight rarely to be heard of again. This is one of the curses of the TV talent show. There are those, however, who have proved they’re here to stay. The likes of Kelly Clarkson are now global stars selling millions of albums.
The one place in normal competition that nobody wants to end up in is second, but that doesn’t seem to be the case with American Idol. Many of the losers on the night have gone on to have successful careers, often eclipsing the actual winners.
We’ll have a look now at some of the most famous runners up who have American Idol to thank for a great career, even though they didn’t actually win.
The first of the successful runners up was Clay Aiken, back in season two. The skinny nerd transformed week by week in front of our eyes into a real star. He belted out a song like no other, and you that wherever he finished this guy was gonna stick around.
It was a major surprise on the night when America voted Ruben Studdard the winner, as Clay had been the clear favorite. Since Idol, however, their fortunes have been reversed. While Studdard achieved moderate success, Clay has gone from strength to strength and is a major star on the radio and on Broadway.
The runner up from season 7 was the incredibly cute David Archuleta. He placed himself firmly in the hearts of the American public and still remains there today. This guy keeps popping up all over the place and has worked hard to carve himself a very successful career.
It looks as if this year’s second placed contestant Adam Lambert is taking his place on this list too. He was beaten on the night by Kris Allen but in the months since that night, Lambert’s career is going from strength to strength while Allen’s seems to have stalled.

It’s amazingly been over 90 years since it occurred, but the legendary ‘19 World Series scandal most definitely lives on with baseball historians and any enthusiasts of the game. With much controversy these days about Pete Rose and his possible place in Cooperstown, another figure with parallels to Rose is Shoeless Joe Jackson, who played for the’19 White Sox (also known as the “Black Sox”) for their role in throwing the’19 World Series against the Reds.
Whether he actively threw the series or not, we’re going to first analyze his numbers to determine whether he’s Hall of Fame worthy but for the scandal. Jackson’s career spanned- years, and while he’s remembered as having played for the White Sox, Jackson also played for the Naps, Athletics, and Indians.
Some of these numbers include a .356 career batting average, 785 RBIs, and 168 career triples. The power was low, but this came in an era where lower home run totals were more commonplace.
The power is low, but this came in an era with much deeper home run fences, and just before Babe Ruth made his impact as the first major power hitter in baseball, revolutionizing the game. Players hit for average, with an emphasis on extra base hits (Jackson averaged- triples per season). A closer look at Jackson’s stats show some very impressive attributes.
Jackson had an OPS of .940, an on base percentage of .423, and struck out just once every 24 times at the plate. These numbers are very impressive in their own right, and make a stronger case for Shoeless Joe.
Now let’s get into the Black Sox scandal of’19. The White Sox faced the Reds in the World Series. The White Sox lost the series and Joe Jackson, and eight other players were accused of throwing the series. But Shoeless Joe stats show he did not play poorly. Do you think a .375 average and 12 hits (a world series record) is throwing the series? His fielding percentage in the series was 1.000, having made no errors.
Many have accused Jackson of allowing multiple Reds triples in left field, where he played for the White Sox. However, further research of mine has shown that no triples were hit to Jackson’s part of the field in the’19 series. Jackson, however, did receive a $5,000 payment according to records.
This begs the question: does Shoeless Joe belong in the hall?

Every year, there are a few fantasy basketball players who rise out of obscurity, establishing themselves as bona fide must start players through the course of the season.
These are guys you had your eye on at some point in time, and you’re still kicking yourself over the fact that you missed the chance to draft them.
These players emerge every year. Some of them in recent years have included Monta Ellis, Andris Biedrins, Troy Murphy, and many more. Regardless, all we can do is move forward to try to spot the next sleeper. Who wins the crown this year so far?
As far as the winner of this category goes, there’s one player who I specifically have in mind, as I believe he’s done a tremendous job so far.
Kevin Love has simply been phenomenal in Minnesota. No one saw this coming, at least not this quickly and not to such an extent. As the player with the second highest rebounding average in the league, his numbers are exceptional. He’s also a great scorer and a solid shooter too.
Love has one of the highest free throw percentages for a center in all of basketball, and he’s shoots some three pointers here and there too.
How many NBA centers do you know of who shoot three pointers? There’s Andrea Bargnani and Mehmet Okur, but there aren’t many others after that. Add Love to the list.
While he was drafted by some teams in the very late rounds, he went undrafted by and large. In addition to this, most of those who drafted him decided to drop him when it was revealed that he’d miss the first month of the season due to injury.
It appears that the 09-10 season will be the year of Kevin Love when it comes to fantasy sleepers. He’s made it nearly impossible to vote for anyone else.

What an interesting last year or two it’s been. Names that we had never heard of before are suddenly some of the biggest names in the music world.
Some of these people have established themselves as superstars overnight, and the future holds nothing but promise for them.
Who are the biggest names in the pop music world entering the new year? Well, let’s have a look at a few of them here.
If you’re a teenager or a parent of one, you’ve surely heard the music of the Jonas Brothers. They’re like the Hanson of this decade, only it seems that they have more staying power. People love the Jonas Brothers and their concert sales are indicative of how big they really are.
How about Lady Gaga? Whether it was Poker Face, Bad Romance, or any other one of her hits, she was all over the place last year. Her shows sell out, and her music videos are highly anticipated.
Many are comparing her to Madonna, and she welcomes the comparison. Her aspirations are high and it seems that this pop star is here to stay.
If you watched the MTV awards last year, you surely saw the whole Taylor Swift incident. Lo and behold, she makes some great music too. Some of her songs enjoyed massive success last year and it seems like she has the talent to continue on in her journey.
One final figure that I’ll mention here is an American Idol success story. After all, what would any pop music discussion be these days without mentioning Idol?
Lambert’s debut album immediately reached the top of the charts, and this should be indicative of the massive following he immediately generated from his success on the show.
In addition to pop culture, this author additionally regularly contributes articles on closet shelving systems and wire closet shelves.

Many believe that a great basketball franchise starts with its point guard. After all, the man running the show coordinates just about every offensive drive up the court.
The ball distributor sets the tone for a team’s offense and an apt one is likely to lead his team to success. If he’s a good defender, he’ll do even more good for his team.
We’ve been privileged enough to have some of the best point guards in the history of the sport during the last quarter century. I’d like to give my due to five of them, and I’ll be ranking them in order. This all comes down to my opinion, and I hope you agree with my rankings here.
Number five on my list goes to Steve Nash. It’s remarkable to think about the fact that his best basketball has been played after the age of 30. While he’s now 35, some coaches and analysts think he’s playing better than he ever has.
Next on my list is Chris Paul. While he’s younger than Nash, he’s made the most of his time, becoming one of only two point guards in the history of the league to lead all players in assists and steals per game.
Chris Paul fills the stat sheet like no other point guard in basketball. Between his league high assists and steals, his great shooting ability, and his rebounding prowess, Paul is truly one of a kind.
Back to an older active player who hasn’t slowed down, Jason Kidd is truly phenomenal. The fact that he plays as well as he does at the age of 36 is a testament to his raw talent. Kidd has one of the most well rounded games in the history of the sport.
Number two on the list is a point guard who is one of the best distributors in the history of the sport. Averaging over 10 assists per game during the course of his career, John Stockton was a legend who played past the age of 40, and very competitively at that.
As great as these point guards all were, no one tops Magic Johnson on this list. While his career was unfortunately cut short, what he accomplished while he played was truly incredible. Between his championships, MVP awards, and his stats, he was a joy to watch and simply one of the best to ever play.

It’s been a very interesting season on MTV’s Jersey Shore, and this is the first MTV show in quite a few years that has people buzzing the way they are about this reality series.
If you’re in the minority of people who still don’t know what this series is all about, here’s a quick rundown. A group of people in their 20s from New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island are picked out at random by MTV to share a beach house over the summer.
The place to be is the Jersey shore, and the town is Seaside Heights, a vacation destination where these NJ and Staten Island residents love to spend their weekends.
This has become one of those shows where you’re simply amazed by the antics you witness on a week to week basis. There’s romance drama, fighting, and a ton of comedy that will be sure to have you laughing.
If you’re still catching up on episodes, don’t read this article as it may contain spoilers. Otherwise, let’s go into a few of the most memorable moments from the season so far.
Two housemates, Sammy and Ronnie, have ended up falling in love with each other. This was very unexpected, as in the first episode, Ronnie had claimed that the last thing anyone should do at the Jersey Shore is fall in love. The two of them seem to be head over heels for one another.
Then, a recent episode with Vinnie, another member of the cast, brought some more surprise and suspense. While he was out at night, he ended up wandering off with an older woman. What he didn’t realize was that this woman was the date of the man whose house they’re living in. Needless to say, this didn’t sit well with Vinnie, who was sure that he’d be kicked out of the shore house.
Lastly, the fighting is a fixture on this show. In fact, you’d be hard pressed to find an episode that doesn’t involve some kind of a physical altercation. Not only do the men on the show find themselves in fights, but the women go at it too. This makes for some very wild television.
The cast members of this show have literally become overnight celebrities due to this reality show’s success. What happens from here should be very interesting.

There’s no better time to watch TV than when it’s cold outside. Unfortunately, good winter programming can be a little harder to find than it is during the other seasons of the year. There are still some great shows out there though.
There are probably some shows that you’ve never heard of, or simply ones that you didn’t think you’d enjoy. If you give them a chance after watching an episode or two, I’m confident that you’ll begin to watch them regularly.
The following shows are ones that I’d recommend tuning into. Give these a chance and you’ll likely be amused.
ABC has a great comedy series entering its second season in Better Off Ted. If you’re unfamiliar with this series, the best way to sum it up is by comparing it to The Office. The characters on this show are great, and you’ll likely compare some of them to people at your own workplace.
There’s a lot of sarcasm and wit in the show’s humor, and most who watch the show fall in love with it after an episode or two. Critics seem to agree that this may be the funniest show on television right now.
If you’re looking for a drama series worth watching, then give Men of a Certain Age a chance. This show airs weekly on TNT, and stars Ray Romano, who rose to fame on the success of Everybody Loves Raymond.
Romano is back, seeking to find success in a second series, and he may well do that here. This show pulls you in after an episode or two.
Since we’ve covered comedies and dramas, it’s time to look at reality TV. The Biggest Loser is airing a new season that has many people buzzing, and MTV has its viewers anxiously waiting for new episodes of Jersey Shore each week. Both of these will provide you with a healthy dose of reality entertainment.
