The Sensibility Of Cleaning Your Dishes As You Prepare Food

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

Cooking is one of our favorite hobbies, we love going into the kitchen and creating tasty meals and treats fro our loved ones. What we don’t love, however, is the trail of destruction that we leave behind. How come there’s so much mess?

This has bugged us for generations, well, since the days of masters and servants ceased to exist. At one time, all our ancestors had to do was sit at the table, have their meals brought to them and then retire. The staff downstairs had to worry about all the tidying up.

If you were at the other end of the social scale and didn’t have servants it wasn’t a problem either as you couldn’t afford to cook elaborate meals so there was little, if anything to clean up.

The thing is, with today’s so called time saving gadgets, there seems to be more mess than ever. As well as utensils we have used, there are also a stack of appliances such as blenders that need to be cleaned out.

The nearest most of us have to servants these days is a cleaner once or twice a week, and a war zone kitchen isn’t really in her job description! So we still stress about how we can continue cooking, but without the mess.

Cooking is one of my great passions in life, tidying up after myself is not. I’ve tried various things to lessen this chore; most of them didn’t work, I’m happy to report that this one did.

Clean as you go is now my kitchen motto. Keep a bowl of hot, soapy water and wash each piece as soon as you’ve used it. Then when you’ve finished, there will only be the last couple of things that you’ve used, so much better than a teetering pile of dirty dishes.

In the long run, leaving everything to the end is making more work for yourself. This is particularly difficult if you have guests for dinner, you know what a state your kitchen is in but can’t abandon your guests to go and clean up. Cleaning as you go means you can enjoy your evening as you know your kitchen is okay.

How To Buy Wonderful Boxes For Your Photos

Saturday, August 7th, 2010

Times have changed very much in recent years, especially in the world of photography. No longer do we take pictures with film, and storing these images in photography boxes should be something that everyone does to maintain the integrity of these older images.

I can remember the days of one hour photo shops and the expensive cost that came with it. I suppose that it’s a good thing that we no longer need to pay for things like these and film, and I don’t see things ever going back to that state.

Older pictures are something that future generations won’t be able to identify with. These will be worth more as time goes by, especially those taken with film.

The best way to preserve the quality of pictures like these is by storing them inside photograph boxes. Not only will they be easy to access, but the aura surrounding them will be enhanced through the presence of such a great accessory. Let’s look at a few of the things to keep in mind when buying one.

First and foremost, you want to make sure that you buy a sturdy box. Metal corners are advisable, as these can more easily handle the weight of other boxes that sit atop them. There are others that have the ability to connect to other ones via snap, and these could work just as well.

This next piece of advice has to do with keeping the quality of your older pictures high, without seeing them turn orange due to acid exposure. Some picture boxes will be lined with acid, and you should avoid these at all costs. The acid will slowly rub onto your images, altering their composition.

One last tip is to make sure the size of the container you get is optimal for the photos you have in mind. Too many people carelessly buy something to small and they end up cramming more pictures into it than they should.

With many styles available, you should have no problem finding photo boxes that wonderfully complement the pictures that will go inside.
