Guidelines About Cell Phones For Teens

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

Should children have their own cellphones? It’s a tricky question that most parents face these days. A lot of children and teenagers do have a mobile phone. Deciding whether or not to get one for your child has to involve weighing up the advantages and disadvantages.

Parents are always preoccupied by their child’s safety, and cellphones can make a person safer. You know you can always get in touch with your child if he or she has a phone, which is reassuring in the current climate. Also, in a difficult situation, your child can always use the cell to get help from somebody.

Some phones come with GPS already installed, too. This enables you to locate your child should he or she go missing. These are all sound reasons for buying a cellphone for your child.

Bur is your child really capable of managing his or her own phone? Even if you both agree that the phone is to be used for emergencies only, you may find yourself faced with a frightening bill at the end of the month. Chatting on the phone can soon become the favorite pastime of preteens and teenagers.

Restricting your child to sending text messages might seem good economical sense. However, a lot of youngsters soon become addicted to this as well, so you end up with the same problem. Texting can’t be put forward as an argument in favor of buying a cellphone, then.

Only you can make the right, informed decision about when your child is ready for a cellphone. Knowing your child is the key here.

Don’t shy away from parental controls, either. You can set limits on how much time or money they spend on the phone.

If you decide against buying a cellphone for the moment, then be strong in your decision. You haven’t taken it lightly, so don’t be influenced by what your child thinks or what other parents think. Remember that your role as a parent is to decide what is best for your child.

The Irrelevancy Of Books

Sunday, August 22nd, 2010

More and more people are choosing the internet as a source for information over books. This has been happening for some time already.

Instead of heading to the local library for information, as in days past, many people are now just turning on their computers from the comforts of home. They are usually pleased with the information they can find on the internet, from a given website. Does this shift in the gaining of information mean the end of books?

In my opinion, no it does not. The fact of the matter is that there are just too many academics who rely heavily upon books, in their studies and chosen careers, to let books die out overnight.

If you ask any higher education student, they will tell you that their teachers want to know the sources of where they got their information. Under most circumstances, saying that some random website is your source is not acceptable.

In this age of technology anyone can own and operate a website claiming they are an authority on any given topic. With good marketing they can even become one of the top links in a Google search.

The site may look nice, and they may sound like they know what they are talking about, but who is to say that they really do? Websites are largely unregulated and it is not easy to tell what has been fact checked.

Books though are generally written by acclaimed experts in their fields. They have been checked and reviewed time and again. Books make it easier to weed out the good sources from the bad.

For these reasons, as well as the people who, like myself, just love the feel of a good novel between their hands, I do not think books will be forgotten any time soon. As a book person, my only hope is for the future generations, that they may grow to appreciate the importance of books, as many of us already do.

Fascinating Zoo Animals Worthy Of Visiting

Friday, August 13th, 2010

I still go to the zoo on a regular basis, but now I go to learn about the animals instead of merely admiring them. Listed below are just a few that I tend to visit more than others.

As I’m now an adult, I find a visit to the zoo to be a learning experience too. Of course I still enjoy the thrill of watching the animals going about their business ignoring us gaping at them; and there some that I enjoy more.

The first stop on my virtual tour of my favourite animals at the zoo is the mighty Dolphins. Kind, gentle and loving all contact with their human visitors, these wonderful mammals will always be must sees for me.

I love the Apes, monkeys, Gorillas and of the other species that are under the umbrella of Primate. Thinking about it, they could well be my favorite. Their likeness to humans is uncanny.

These animals can actually make you laugh out loud, just watching their antics will entertain you for hours and really lift your spirits. I’m always in a better mood after watching them.

A special place in my heart will always be reserved for those magnificent beasts; Elephants. These gentle giants are blessed with a really gentle nature and are very clever.

No trip to a zoo is complete without spending a good amount of time watching these beasts. Their movements and interactions are fascinating.

So there you go, my top must sees on any visit to a zoo. These animals aren’t just incredibly smart but are also fascinating.

Intriguing Cookie Creations

Thursday, August 12th, 2010

If you or your family are bored with eating the same cookies why not try something a little different? Say goodbye to your Oatmeal and raisin or Chocolate Chip, not that I could ever give up the latter completely, and be a bit more inventive.

I’m also open to new ideas and suggestions though, and am willing to try anything. It’s only by mixing and matching and playing around that you can discover new delights.

There are a few new cookie recipes that I gave a chance recently, and they were really tasty. Here are some of them for you to try; you may find a new favorite for yourself or your family.

One clever idea that I think you will enjoy is using a cake mix to make your cookies from. They even crack like shop bought cookies and taste brilliant, and there are so many flavors to experiment with.

These next cookies come from peanut butter dough and contain butter cups, like the ones Reese’s make. Either buy or make your dough and make the cookies as normal. When they come out of the oven push a butter cup into each cookie, you get the idea.

In my opinion, White chocolate is a very neglected ingredient, until now. My combining this with Cranberries I have created a cookie that looks good, tastes good and that I can’t make enough of as they go so fast! You know you’ve hit on a winner when your friends keep asking you to make more.

A sweet and tasty treat using cherry, chocolate chips and buttered toffee is my last idea today. Just chuck them into your mixture and prepare your taste buds for a real treat.

I hope my ideas have inspired you to try some of your own, or even take my suggestions and add your own twist to them. Making cookies is a lot of fun, and inventing new ones that turn out to be winners is very satisfying.

Things To Apply If Raising A German Shepherd

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

All dog training throws up many challenges along the way and none more so than when training a German Shepherd. There are specific techniques needed, but the good news is that they are easily learnt and the whole process can be incredibly rewarding.

The German Shepherd is one of the most intelligent and loyal of all breeds of dog. They love children and a well trained dog makes a wonderful pet, as well as an excellent guard dog.

We’ve a few tips and guidelines here for you to help in the training of your German Shepherd. This will help your puppy to become a very well behaved adult dog.

A German Shepherd is a natural and distinctive hunter, and will always look for the alpha dog. This instinct dates back to the origin of the breed, when their sole purpose was as sheep herders.

The key to successfully training a German Shepherd puppy is to take on the role of the alpha dog. They will then look to you to guide and lead them. Be strong and authoritative, your puppy needs rules.

Be your puppy’s boss, but never be a puppy and attempt to train him by physical means. A happy, bouncy German Shepherd puppy can grow up to be a very disturbed adult dog due to their sensitivity.

All puppies are naughty and test the patience of their owners this is just nature and you shouldn’t punish them for it. This is when you just speak firmly and calmly and they will soon know their boundaries, as dogs don’t like being told off.

The other side of this is that you must reward your German Shepherd when he does well. As much hates being in trouble, they love to be praised and if they know there are kind words or a treat, they will try even harder to please you.

The Greatest Colas You Have Never Sampled

Sunday, August 8th, 2010

Was there ever a greater drink invented than Cola? I don’t think so. The amount of soda I consume is scary, so I guess you could call me an addict.

Although cola is my favorite I don’t stop there and will try any flavored beverage that I can get my hands on. I get such a buzz from finding a little known drink, trying it, and finding that it’s delicious.

You know what really bugs the hell out of me? when the list of ingredients includes such things as corn syrup and high fructose. These have been processed so cannot be called natural ingredients.

Bearing this in mind, I’m going to point you towards a few sodas which I find delicious and think that they are seriously underrated.

One of our most popular beverages in the US is root beer, and Virgil’s make the tastiest root beer that I have ever tasted. Many other people think this also, judging by the amount of awards this drink has won.

From the same manufacturer comes the wonderfully named and utterly delicious black cherry vanilla cream soda. This has a sublime flavor and so deserves to be better known than it is.

A great cola without any stupidly named ingredients is by Boylan’s and it’s a traditional tasting sugar cane cola. This has pure cane sugar and other true natural ingredients which will really give your taste buds a treat.

My final choice is the green teas soda range that is produced by Steaz. These drinks blend fruit flavor with green tea. There are many varieties to choose from including lemon & lime, raspberry, root beer and orange. Another benefit of these is that thanks to the green tea they are healthier than ordinary sodas.
